The evidence behind the SensPod

Every element is chosen for a reason the nervous system understands.

A child can only learn after they feel safe. The SensPod is not a booth with a tablet — it is a regulation environment built on that one principle from neuroscience, delivered through the senses that Canadian and U.S. research links most directly to calm, focus and emotional balance. Each function below is a tool the child can choose.

Five senses, one purpose

Sight · Light

Adjustable, calming light

Light is not neutral. In the landmark Heschong daylighting study of more than 21,000 students, children in daylight-rich classrooms progressed 20–26% faster in maths and reading. A 2024 Washington State University pilot rotating LED colours in windowless classrooms found statistically significant behaviour changes by colour. The pod's tunable LEDs let each child dial in the brightness and hue that settles them.

Sound · Music

Music that regulates

Calming music lowers heart rate and cortisol and helps a stressed child return to their window of regulation. A Canadian study of 112,916 British Columbia students found those engaged in instrumental music were meaningfully ahead of peers in maths, science and English. For learners with ADHD, a 2024 study found white and pink noise improved attention and working memory by roughly 10–12%.

Ambiance sound

Nature soundscapes & soft noise

Natural sound is one of the most reliable, drug-free ways to shift the body toward calm. A 2021 PNAS study led by Canada's Carleton University with the U.S. National Park Service across 66 national parks found natural sounds lower stress and pain and improve mood and cognition — water sounds most improved positive emotion, birdsong most reduced stress. Low-level white or pink noise can also help inattentive learners lock onto a task.

Smell

Calming scent, quick-swap

Scent reaches the limbic system — the brain's emotion centre — faster than any other sense. Randomised clinical trials of lavender aromatherapy report lower anxiety, heart rate and salivary cortisol in children during stressful procedures. A quick-swap scent gives children a gentle, non-pharmaceutical way to steady their breathing within minutes — offered as a comfort, not a medical treatment.

Touch & Breath · Body awareness

Guided breathing & movement

This is where the Method and the pod meet. Simple fidget and tactile tools raise on-task behaviour for students with ADHD, while a guided “mindful moment” resets the nervous system on demand. School mindfulness and body-awareness programs reduce impulsivity, improve attention and support emotional regulation — teaching the child to feel the message in their body and choose a calm response.

ForeverMe SensPods are part of a longitudinal research project — IntiAppreneur: Tomorrow's Education Today. As part of this initiative, our evidence comes from two university-led case studies conducted by Maria Chiasson, Ph.D., Université de Moncton (NB, Canada), focused on capturing students' and staff perceptions of the pods and their perceived impacts.

What the pod does — and does not — do A SensPod is an environment, not a clinical intervention. It does not treat anything and does not replace assessment, therapy or a trained adult. The findings below are perceptions and observations recorded in the case studies; they describe how the space is experienced, not clinical outcomes.

Students and staff reported an increase in focus when using the SensPods compared with traditional study spaces.

Academic efficiency

In general, students completed academic tasks more quickly in the pods than in traditional study spaces.

Well-being & psychological safety

Students reported feeling safer and more secure in the pods than in other school spaces.

Privacy for sensitive conversations

Students and staff identified privacy and confidentiality as a key benefit of the pods.

Self-regulation support

Staff reported faster de-escalation and shorter crisis episodes when the pod was used to support self-regulation.
